The growth curve for cannabidiol is off the charts. From food to beverages to cosmetics and OTC, formulators are working with CBD extracts to create the next winning consumer product. The global legal market for cannabis products is expected to reach $166 billion by 2025, according to Euromonitor International, as cannabis in some form becomes part of consumers’ daily routines, either as a functional ingredient in foods, beverages and beauty, or as a wellness mood enhancer in health. It's no surprise that raw material suppliers and finished product companies are entering category at a fast clip. MediPrana is a research-based CBD product manufacturing and formulation consulting company based in Long Beach, California. It was founded in January of 2017 by Pascal Gressier, a sales and marketing specialist, Lucky Sandhu, operations manager, and Windy Foster, a scientist. “Our goal was to deliver carefully crafted CBD nutraceutical and skincare products to people and their pets,” recalled Foster. “We use full-spectrum plant components in combination with synergistic carriers to produce a highly bioavailable product that can deliver as promised. We look for quality ingredients as close to nature as possible and then apply technology, such as cold-press and nano-emulsification, to produce therapeutically effective formulas.” Foster described the anecdotal claims of CBD’s therapeutic value in personal care products as “quite intriguing” of late. She pointed out taht industry executives and social media influencers alike are posting stories shared by CBD converts who, tired of being at the mercy of their suffering skin, used CBD and got incredible results. In addition, recently published studies have confirmed the veracity of some of these claims, as well as finding new and novel applications for this versatile phytonutrient. “While the current hoopla surrounding CBD may make is seem like it will be a passing fancy, I think that the decriminalization and de-stigmatization of cannabis, along with the increase in published research substantiating its many benefits, means CBD and other cannabis-based phytoconstituents in skin care are here to stay,” she predicted. According to Foster, CBD’s safety and versatility, gives it a valid place in topicals of all kinds. Its anti-inflammatory properties are a perfect for topicals designed for inflammatory conditions such as acne, rosacea, and sunburn, to name a few, she insisted. “CBD also helps balance hormones and neurotransmitters in the skin and throughout the body. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties that are yet to be fully explored. And it helps regulate cellular turnover and boosts elastin and collagen to turn back the clock on aging skin.” Impressive, but it just scratches the surface of CBD’s value as a topical agent, and it does all this with little to no risk of sensitivity or adverse reactions across a wide range of skin types, Foster insisted. “When combined with CBD taken internally to help support the body’s endocannabinoid system, it becomes a holistic wellness plan, generating beauty both from outside and from within. And who doesn’t like that?,” she asked. MediPrana offers several product lines including tinctures, a spa line, and a new water-soluble sprays. All are products are available at retail dispensaries in California or online at www.medipranacbd.com.
